To eliminate or reduce the premature aging processes we need to perform physical activities to stimulate the cells in our body to repair, rebuild and renew.

The best way to put the physical activities back into our lifestyles is through strength training exercise. This can reverse muscle and bone lose caused by our sedimentary lives and condition our bodies to function better and become more fit. When your body is exposed to strength training exercise it is stimulated to produce human growth hormones. These hormones can slow the aging process and keep you young and active.

If you begin strength training you can rebuild muscle tissue and increase your metabolism, which means an overall higher quality of life.

We’ve got a stretch of leisure time ahead of us uncharted by any previous generation and to survive it, rejoice in it, value it, is going to take some planning. Sure, we all talk about volunteering, taking classes, joining a social club but the trick is to actually do it; to really get out and create balance. Have you noticed at your local coffee shop the number of people who sip alone and contrast them with the groups of grey-haired ones who come in on bikes! What interests you? Birding? Check out your local Audubon. Walks; hiking? There must be a local group. What about a chapter of OLLI (Osher Life Long Learning Institute) for classes taught by peer group volunteers, often based on life experience and passion. Search out a community garden in your neighborhood and if one doesn’t exist, see what you can do to rally a group to find the land to get one started You can be published without charge.
