Everybody would like to get a massage but not everybody is comfortable giving them to someone else. The possibility of causing hurt to the other person is a very genuine concern. We are scared that we might not help enough. We get apprehensive that other people won’t appreciate what we are trying to do. You will be glad to hear that any person can learn how to give a terrific massage each time they want to do just that. Here is how you can give a good back massage each time you want to.
It is vital that the person be at ease while he is lying down. The surface on which they are lying down needs to be firm but soft. You don’t need a table but try having them lie down on the bed. If they are on the floor, spread a couple of soft blankets, towels or a mat so that the person will feel better. If the person wishes to remain clothed (and majority of people will), see to it that the shirt they are wearing is made of soft material so there won’t be as much friction or scratching.
Start out with some standard rubbing. Use the whole flat side of both hands to rub from the lower back toward the neck (do this gradually). This rub needs to have at least a little bit of pressure in it but don’t try to use your full massage pressure yet. Start out at the the lower back and then move your hands up the back then across the shoulders and then back down the back. As you work on this part of the massage, try to make every “loop” of the back smaller so that you can be sure to get to all areas of the back.
Try using the heels of your hands to make good and pointed pressure. Move the heels of your palms in little circles starting in the middle of the base of the back and then working out toward the sides, upwards and then back toward the spine until you’ve done this to all the areas of the back.
Sit at the side of whoever is obtaining the massage. Then, place one hand on top of the other and push into the back with only your fingers. Start with the backbone and dig in steadily away from the spinal column, across your back and then very gently rub your hands back toward the spinal column. Do this again while you work your way up the back and then do this on the other side.
Work out the spinal column. Start out at the base of the spinal column and work up each of the sausage-y muscles on each side of the backbone with a few fingers or your thumbs. Build up some friction in each node by massaging each one at least five times. Massage one side of the back and then work on the other side.
One of the things to bear in mind as you work through every one of these massage techniques is that it is good to re-relax your person between each portion of the massage you’re giving. This means that after using one technique, go back to the basic rub that you used at the beginning of the massage for a couple of minutes.
